Oct. 4th, Summary and Review of the Currency Exchange

Most Gracious and Heavenly Father, Thank You for watching over us today amongst the information that was and was not received about the Revaluation of the currency that we hold. Once again we have endured “We are really close” statements followed very closely by “in my opinion” and hearing the providers tell us that they know more but they are restricted from letting everything they know out.

Dear Lord God Almighty, Please understand those of us (myself included) who seem more disappointed from time to time, but our needs are more urgent than some of the others on the board. We do enjoy the fellowship but often find it easier to just follow along on the conversations and enjoy the music brought in by our fellow members. Just sitting back and finding something else to do helps us stay alert.

My dear Friends, Yes indeed it has been a long, long road that we have traveled but we need to think back to those hard times when we thought that we would not make it through another week much less another month. I want you to look back at those times when we knew disaster was eminent and think about what got you past that point into the next week or month. Coincidence or Devine Intervention?

May God bless and continue to watch over us all as we face this day and the weekend beyond and above all Remember, “Our Destiny Awaits” It is not question of if but a question of when. Sleep well.

Beny is our pressure cooker to release the steam

I would like to hear a round table conversation between Awake in 3D - Rocker - Mr. B / From those three you can learn a lot.

CURRENT WINDOW: Ray: Looking at a combination of: call centers on call, exchange locations on call . . . tie that into rates being seen . . .$3.40 -$3.70. . . and the .0025 rate in affect today. . . I would think before Oct 12. . . .I do think this should be over by the IMF meeting, which is next week… The indication the rates are climbing

10-7-2017   Newshound/Intel Guru BGG   Even though they are saying they can’t do it right now...doesn’t mean they won’t – or this person has the final say in such matters.  If they want to re-engage with other world economies, this will happen. All of these items appear on a collision course.  However, they won’t be able to lay off the dollar or fully engage internationally at the current value...it is too much of imbalance.  It is going to be interesting to see the outcome of these next meetings with the IMF starting on the 13th here in Washington D.C.   [post 2 of 2]

Article:  "Economic expert: Iraq cannot trade in its local currency"  Quote:  “Iraq’s agreement with other countries for commercial exchange through the local currency and abandonment of the dollar will have a positive return on the economy,”...“noting that” trade in local currency will reduce the inflation rate significantly because of the lack of the need to buy Dollar or reduce the proportion of purchase.“  You do realize what they are talking about here – right?  This is a fairly direct reference to the “deleting of the zeros” project in a veiled sort of way. Fact.  [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

10-7-2017   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   ...how much longer can Iraq stay isolated? Did you read about Abadi’s recent trip to France? Why would France come into Iraq and want to deal with this under-valued currency?

10-7-2017   Intel/Newshound Guru payray   Article:  "Lagarde calls on states to "seize the opportunity" of global recovery"  Quote:   "The global economic recovery is taking hold, calling on nations to adopt reforms aimed at lasting prosperity on a larger scale, IMF director Christine Lagarde said on Thursday."   ...I would like to point out how she is forecasting 7 years of economic prosperity after being in the deep freeze... She declares that the horizon looks promising... The 7 year period of prosperity has not occurred for the world economy as of yet... Which is why I cannot help to believe that the monetary reform in Iraq has something to do with the beginning of this 7 year period of economic abundance...

November 7, 2016

BAGHDAD / IBN – The governor of the Iraqi Central Bank on the Keywords that project to delete the zeros will be implemented in early 2017, indicating that the bank began to develop the first steps of the project.

BGG ~ This says they have already began to develop the first steps – indicating they are into the process (in late 2016). This would imply they are further along today… and likely many of the AML, electronic banking and international banking interactions are leading up to the implementation of this project.
Keywords and said in a statement on Monday, received Iraqi transmitter Network (IBN) a copy of the “The purpose of deleting three zeros from the Iraqi currency is to support the Iraqi dinar and make it a competitor of foreign currency,” pointing out that “this strategic project will serve the country’s economy if it will be inclusion of the Iraqi dinar in the global basket of currencies in the vital world exchanges. ”

BGG ~ This is a key phrase: “…will serve the country’s economy if it will be inclusion of the Iraqi dinar in the global basket of currencies in the vital world exchanges. “…

He added that the bank “is working on mechanisms for the implementation of this project is expected to start at the beginning of 2017,” noting that “the central bank began the first steps of the project through the selection of designs, companies and the country in which the currency will be printed.”

He pointed out that “the new currency entry does not mean the destruction of ancient coins, but will continue to trade for about ten years,” pointing out that “this period will enable the central bank to withdraw the old currency in accordance with the dynamics and mechanics in order to preserve liquidity in the market.”

BGG ~ This is the first of the two “flashback” articles I mentioned on the Conference Call the other night. This was published in early Nov, 2016. Obviously, it is easy to see why there was so much excitement over the “first part” of 2017.

However, there now seems to be have been more to the story. Lots of info in this piece to reflect on though.

Another reason to repost and reflect on this, they have said nothing contradictory since. They are obviously not “on schedule” but they are not denying it either.

Spectra: BGG -BLAST FROM THE PAST-------It is noteworthy that some economists believe that Iraq is not ready at present to delete the zeros from the dinar, noting that the deletion needs to be a security and political stability as well as economic stability.

BGG ~ ….”the deletion needs to be a (in) security and political stability as well as economic stability”…. This last bit seem to be a more recent argument. It would appear the “experts” in this camp have been winning the argument.

However, it is plain to see the UN, IMF and WB are helping very much in all these areas, helping to bridge the gap and move Iraq into an era of security, political stability and economic well-being. Alghadpress.com
BGG ~ Though this piece was likely a “re-hash” of sorts, it has some more recent lingo added. Which lends some credence to it’s veracity. It is likely they just added some lines, rather than go back and re-write the whole subject in a current article.

Spectra: BGG-POST-The Central Bank: the draft zeros delete will be implemented in early 2017 Tomorrow Press / Baghdad confirmed the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, on Thursday that the deletion of zeros project will be implemented in early 2017, indicating that the bank began to develop the first steps of the project.

Keywords and said for “Tomorrow ‘s Press”, said that ” the goal of deleting three zeros from the Iraqi currency is to support the Iraqi dinar and make it a competitor for foreign currency”, returned him as ” a strategic project that will serve the country ‘s economy.”

“The bank is working on the mechanisms used towards the implementation of this project is expected to start by the beginning of 2017 , ” noting that ” the central bank began the first steps of the project by selecting the designs and companies and the country in which it will be printed currency.”

He noted that ” the launch of the new currency does not mean the destruction of the old currencies , but it will continue to trade to about ten years , ” pointing out that “this period will enable the central bank to withdraw the old currency in accordance with the mechanisms will maintain market liquidity.”

The Finance Committee in the former House of Representatives revealed, (2013 August 15), for the postponement of the process of deleting zeros from the currency until after the next parliamentary elections, while confirming that the government is demanding guarantees for non – substituent currency back to the markets and forge.

BGG ~ This paragraph was some historical perspective leading up to the first part of the article… The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed, in (April 25, 2013), that there is no intention at the present time to restructure the currency and the deletion of three zeros of them, denying reports that in this regard.

BGG ~ More historical background on the subject – referring to the 2013 time period (NOT CURRENT EVENTS)… It is noteworthy that the General Secretariat of the

Floating the dinar outside of Article VIII seems nuts, even under Article VIII Egypt and Yemen lost purchasing power in their respective currencies, what will it do to the dinar?

Tebow: they're floaters

Duke77: Mike and Kaperoni could be brothers. They both have ideas that iraq can never RV at $1 and they criticize every commentator in Iraq news unless they support their views. chattels: Friday, October 6, 2017 Town of Hawija Liberated From The Islamic State The Iraqi forces freed two important places in their Hawija operation. Those were the town of Hawija itself and Riyad to the south. That leaves just the northeast section of the Hawija district to be freed from the Islamic State. http://musingsoniraq.blogspot.com/2017/10/town-of-hawija-liberated-from-islamic.html

chattels: Prime Minister Haider Abadi officially announced that Hawija had fallen. There was some heavy fighting in the northern and eastern sections of the town, but in two days IS was run off. The army’s 9th Division and the 26th Hashd Brigade also liberated Riyad to the south, and operations in the Hamrin Mountains were declared over.

The Hamrin stretch from Salahaddin to Diyala and the Iraqi forces have claimed that they were in control of it three times now. The remaining part of Hawija will likely be taken in a day or two.

chattels: he Federal Police said that 270 IS fighters were killed in the Hawija campaign. Anther 600 surrendered to the Kurds to the north, and another 400-500 were being held by the Peshmerga as suspects. There were an estimated 2,000-3,000 IS fighters in the area when the offensive began meaning that roughly 1,000-2,000 insurgents escaped or are still in the district.

IS has lines of maneuver through the Hamrin and Makhoul Mountains that connect to the surrounding provinces, which it could have used to smuggle its members out of the area.

chattels: The entire operation has gone exceedingly fast. Hawija was the last large area of Iraq that the militants held. It has been surrounded for months, and the open terrain provided little cover for the insurgents. Several Iraqi generals believe that the group is done as a conventional fighting force and that has proven true since the Mosul battle.
chattels: BAGHDAD (AP) — Thousands of Iraqi Kurdish mourners, along with Iraqi officials and world dignitaries attended on Friday the funeral of Jalal Talabani, the country’s first president in a post-Saddam Hussein Iraq and once a symbol on national unity.

Talabani was laid to rest in Sulaimaniyah, the second-largest city in Iraq’s Kurdish region, after his casket — draped in the Kurdish flag — was flown back from Berlin where he died at a hospital earlier this week.

chattels: Ben Van Heuvelen‏ @berendvh Oct 5 This by @fanarhaddad is an incredibly well characterized summary of Iraq's political system https://twitter.com/berendvh?lang=en

chattels: New realities have been created over the last three years; indeed, Iraq’s political and security landscape today is unrecognisable from what it was in 2014. As is always the case, Iraq faces monumental challenges that must be met but it also faces opportunities that must not be squandered.

Charter - which urges countries to peacefully resolve any conflicts - instead of Chapter VII. http://www.iraqiembassy.us/article/un-security-council-votes-to-remove-iraq-from-chapter-vii-sanctions

chattels: Challenges Ahead .................. that militate against a positive trajectory for Iraq. ................ " given the structural weaknesses of the Iraqi state and the volatile regional climate, Iraq will likely continue to suffer from an acute terror threat for many years to come. If mismanaged, this can act as a drain on resources, a distraction from much needed structural reform, a driver of polarisation and a strain on social cohesion. "

chattels: A more immediate concern is the tremendous cost of the recent victories against IS. Iraq’s minister of planning puts the cost of rehabilitating physical infrastructure at USD $100 billion and it is as yet unclear as to who will foot the bill.

chattels: This situation is likely to continue at this critical moment: whatever goodwill has been generated by the hardships and sacrifices of the past three years will not last long if devastated areas are not rehabilitated, if over a million displaced Iraqis continue to exist in limbo, and security services and a reasonable degree of economic prosperity are not provided.

chattels: Equally challenging and equally important is the emotional side of rehabilitation: justice, reconciliation and dealing with the traumas of IS and year-on-year conflict. As with physical reconstruction, Iraq lacks the capacity to adequately meet the challenge.

chattels: Next year’s elections will reflect the fact that Iraqi politics has undergone exceptional fragmentation over the last two electoral cycles. The grand ethnic and sect-centric electoral alliances of 2005 have long been a thing of the past despite Iran’s wishes for Shia electoral solidarity. Given demographic realities, the nature of power relations in post-2003 Iraq and the disarray of Iraq’s Sunni political classes, Iraqi politics will continue to be dominated by Shia political actors.

However, these actors are bitterly divided with the most salient axis of political contestation likely being that between Prime Minister Haider al Abadi and former Prime Minister and fellow Da’wa Party member Nuri al Maliki and his allies.

chattels: The elections will undoubtedly yield a coalition government but who gains the upper hand between Maliki and Abadi will be crucial to the future of Iraq. Abadi presents himself as the champion of a more conciliatory, somewhat western-leaning, institutions-based, reformminded Iraqi nationalism.

Maliki on the other hand is seen as the strongman nationalist mandated by the political and security exigencies of Iraq. He is also unambiguously sympathetic to Iran and hostile towards the U.S. and practically every major state in the region besides Iran. In short, Maliki (or more precisely his proxies as it is almost impossible for him to return to the Prime Minister’s office) can be seen as the Iran-leaning ‘axis-ofresistance’ option for Iraq.

chattels: The final and perhaps most debilitating challenge facing Iraq and one that augments all other challenges, is the corruption, incompetence and ineffectiveness of Iraq’s political classes.

The shifting realities outlined in this paper have placed new pressures on Iraq’s political classes and rendered many of their tried and tested tropes redundant. However, their entrenchment means that the coming elections will likely reproduce the system albeit in reshuffled form.

However, they will have to adapt to the changing pressures they face from above and from below and this may hopefully create the openings needed for new political forces to emerge further down the line.

chattels: Inclusivity and Counterinsurgency October 2, 2017 | Robert Tollast https://www.iraqincontext.com/single-post/2017/09/26/Hybrid-regime-or-Democracy

chattels: Measuring democracy - Contrary to The Economist 2016 Global Democracy Index which rates Iraq as a "hybrid regime," or Klaas’ “counterfeit” label, the evidence points to Iraq being a transitional democracy, perhaps a “flawed democracy,” according to The Economist’s ranking.

chattels: “We now have splits within the Shiites, within the Sunnis, and within the Kurds. For an average citizen, this is not necessarily a bad thing. It would help change the sectarian discourse and alignment that has been prevalent until last year.”

Similarly, Maliki ally Saleh-Abdul Razaq has called for cross-sectarian unity going into the 2018 election, echoing rival Shia plans for exactly the same thing, albeit with a different arrangement.

chattels: Iraq's military and political inclusivity will put sectarian relations on the right track in the coming months and years, but the situation is of course reversible. It remains vital that the international community remain engaged and committed to supporting the democratic process in Iraq, but the good news is the Iraqis are in the lead as never before.

chattels: Federal Iraq and the Kurdish Region must realise the lasting benefits and necessity of cooperation.

chattels: " ......... although recent political science literature suggests Iraq may be on the right track in the security sector, far more needs to be done in terms of improving Iraqi economic and political institutions. A military victory that belongs to all of Iraq's communities provides a good head start for the next challenge."

xyz: MUST READ ...US Policy Toward Iraq https://www.aei.org/publication/testimony-us-policy-toward-iraq/ ... as a result of corrupt currency exchange policies, Iraq is suffering from a crisis of liquidity. There simply isn’t enough money in circulation and the Iraqi central bank is part of the problem, not the solution.

As a result, many Iraqis do not have money to purchase anything beyond basic needs, and there is virtually no domestic investment because it is more profitable for the banks to trade currency than to loan money to entrepreneurs.

chattels: Stability for Iraq may be defined by security, the economy and poilitical institutions. Without the first, which is substantially improved, the latter two have little chance, but improvements in the first do not necessarily secure the lattter. There is work to be done despite the recent improvements in security, IMO.

chattels: " The next year is likely to see the final defeat of ISIS and national elections that will be crucial as both bellwether and determinant of Iraq’s future course." https://www.aei.org/publication/testimony-us-policy-toward-iraq/
chattels: " Iraq remains a complicated country. It’s military, bureaucracy, politics, economics, and civil society are all weak, contested, and in desperate need of reform. Its constitution is flawed, in part because of the enforced inclusion of the Kurds in a country where they are a liability, not an asset. It is beset by stronger neighbors seeking to dominate the Iraqi state and manipulate its multiplicity of constituent groups."

chattels: " Yet all is not lost in Iraq. Indeed, there are many useful building blocks from which to erect a strong new state and society. When I was last in Baghdad this spring, I was struck by how many Iraqis are unhappy about their present, but optimistic about their future.

Many are proud of their military forces in defeating ISIS, confident that their upcoming elections will produce a more functional political system, and committed to avoiding another civil war. None of that is a guarantee against future problems, but taken together, it can be a starting point for future progress."

IMF Chief: World Must Seize Opportunity of Global Recovery

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said Thursday a worldwide economic recovery is taking hold, opening a window for countries to enact reforms aimed at attaining broader, lasting prosperity.

“The long-awaited global recovery is taking root,” she said in an address Thursday evening at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in Washington, AFP reported.

Countries around the globe are seeing renewed or sustained economic expansion, coinciding with greater stability in banks and market confidence, she said, according to prepared remarks.

“Can the world seize the opportunity of the upswing to secure the recovery and create a more inclusive economy that works for all?” she asked.

Her remarks come the week before the IMF and World Bank are due to begin annual meetings with 189 member nations at which the fund will unveil updated forecasts for global growth.

The IMF since last year has confronted a tide of populism in the developed world, with forces hostile to trade liberalization on the rise in the United States and Europe.

But Lagarde spotlighted what she said were dangers on the horizon, including slow growth, mounting inequality in advanced economies and failures in adapting to technological change. “As a result, our social fabric is fraying and many countries are experiencing increased political polarization.”

Lagarde said inaction would “let a good recovery go to waste”, leading to weak growth, sluggish job creation, fraying social safety nets and leaving financial systems exposed to future crises.

In addition to calling for monetary and fiscal policies that support growth, Lagarde also said countries should invest in infrastructure, research and development to boost productivity and demand, which could reduce unemployment and under-employment.

Expanding access to health care and education as well as adopting progressive taxation could help reduce inequality, she added. “IMF research has shown that excessive inequality hinders growth and hollows out a country’s economic foundation. It erodes trust within society and fuels political tensions.”

Lagarde also called climate change “a threat to every economy and every citizen,” saying that a one-degree increase in average annual temperature in country like Bangladesh would cut per capita GDP by almost 1.5%. “Policymakers should use all tools at their disposal to act now,” she said.
